About HowthThe Howth Peninsula, with its picturesque harbour, lighthouses, walks, martello towers, and portal tomb, offers magnificent panoramas over Dublin Bay.In pre-Christian times the Celtic tribes called this peninsula ‘Ben Edar’ – the mountain or hill of Edar – possibly after a chieftain of the Tuatha De Danann. There has also been speculation that the name Benn na Edar, has an environmental origin meaning ‘hills of the oaks’. As the sun goes down over Howth Harbour the fun continues as each evening the festival offer choices such as a Mystery Dine Around, Special Festival Menus in restaurants and pubs, fireworks on the Harbour and in-house musical entertainment in Howth’s Pubs.

Food VillageLast year’s food village was the highlight of the festival and this year promises to deliver the best.  Whatever way you like you Dublin Bay Prawns – whole, shelled, barbecued, fried, skewered, marinated, sauced – our award winning restaurants will serve your favourite prawn dishes in bite size portions at our Street Food Fair, in addition to a variety of other miniature dishes, so you can enjoy a range of tastes that Howth has to offer.

In addition to a market of local foods, fish filleting & fishery skills demos and a programme of family fun the food village will also include exciting cooking demonstrations for you budding cooks out there
